What happened on 12th April 2023
On Wednesday,
The UK mass media paid particular attention to a high rate of suicide and self-harm cases in nurses and midwives in last decade.
That no surprise, "low staff levels, low pay for their skill level, long hours (with unpaid overtime), working in life of death conditions daily, no mental health support in the UK generally...Am I missing anything? The causes are obvious. We are just refusing to put solutions in place because they require time and effort."
"This is sad to hear - Government please focus on one of the most important jobs in the economy and provide what they need. The fact that I heard people are on less than £25k with 20yrs experience is ridiculous."
Also on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the country's National Security Council Amanda Sloat made Britons happy stating that Joe Biden 'is not anti-British.'
British redditors reacted with sarcasm and annoyance at this statement.
"Joe Biden barely knows who he is and where he is."
"Still don't understand why the USA feel they have any right to get involved here. I'm 5 generations back Venezuelan. Doesn't mean I go around pretending I have a horse in that admittedly very crap race. No, you're not 'Irish American', you're just an American."
"Joe Biden's great, great grandfather emigrated from Ireland. Yet the way he goes on you would think that he himself just stepped off the boat. I am literally more Irish than he is, in that I had a great grandmother from Ireland, yet the Republic of Ireland falls way down the list of countries I give a damn about."
Another horrifying Wednesday story was about appalling statistics by the Independent that 1,643 ‘sexual safety incidents’ in a single 59-bed children’s unit.
Apparently, Huntercombe Hospital in Maidenhead may compete in spookiness with the most high rated scary abandoned psychiatric hospitals of the Great Britain. No surprise, for it was responsible for more than half of the sex-related investigations reported in the 209 children’s mental health units across the country.
That was really shocking.
"I didn't think the headline could get any worse until I read "since 2019". More than one occurrence every single day. F*cking hell."
"The pessimist in me wonders if the others are all just as bad but they just don’t report it."
"Ultimately not many people (in an underpaid and overworked industry) would care enough to file a report every day - it's probably an irritating and lengthy process. Maybe that's also why it was ignored for so long - because it was the same person blowing the whistle each time, and they were discredited in the process? One can only speculate."
Users considered poor pay was one of core problems, once again.
"One of the biggest problems is that they don't pay enough to attract the good carers and you get left with mostly absolute scum. Not saying those who get paid more don't abuse but we could be much more selective and hire actual professionals instead of £10.45 an hour workers."
On that very day, the IMF announced the UK to be one of the worst performing major economies in the world this year.
The BBC readers' reaction was very negative.
"The main issue with the uk is the lack of strategic investment that should be guided by long term thinking on policy. We have poor productivity as a nation. This is not helped by things like brexit and incompetent governance that dissuades investment. Why invest in a regressive, no ideas, country when you can invest in a progressive looking country. I mean one thing that brexit did was get a lot of uk companies increase investment in a eu base rather than the uk. Housing is the least of our problems when it comes to the economy. The uk is a f*cking joke at the moment. We need rid of these morons."
