On Sunday, there was a mournful news that a second eight-year-old girl has died after a car crashed into a primary school in southwest London.

Sixteen people were treated at the scene and 12 were taken to hospital following the incident at The Study Preparatory School in Camp Road, Wimbledon, on Thursday.

The girl has been named by police as Nuria Sajjad. In a statement, her family said: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Nuria on Sunday, 9 July 2023.

"Nuria was the light of our lives. She embodied joy, kindness and generosity and she was loved by all around her.

"We would like to thank the efforts of the emergency services, all the extraordinary staff at St George's Hospital, the parents of Nuria's class fellows and staff of the Study Prep for all they have done to ease Nuria's journey.

"We request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

It was extremely sad news. Brits, however, had a lot of questions to ask.

"Why does someone need to own an SUV in urban London? Just why? There’s a high chance she would have survived had it been a normal car like a Mini Cooper."

"why does someone that knows they have epilepsy or seizures in general is allowed to drive/allowed to drive such massive vehicles?!"

"Stupidity! ‘status’,so others think you are wealthy or they think they are invincible in them . A nursery occupies the land next to my flat , the carpark is otherside of the back garden fence , Every single car that pulled up dropping off their little darlings was a massive SUV. People who cant drive/park the big feckers knocked my fence down 3 times in 3 yrs. Thankfully new nursery there doesnt allow parents/ carers to park in it anymore they use the space for the kids to go on bikes & scooters. I live in an affluent West London burb."

"It's time to ban these giant vanity cars from our cities and towns. A smaller car would have been more likely to stop sooner and have significantly less mass and energy to tear children apart.

The new Land Rover Defender can overcome hitting a 200mm high square-edged kerb at 40km/h

They're designed to 'overcome' things like kerbs that are supposed to keep us safe. That's insane.

What else are we supposed to do, start building all non-car areas to stop 2.5+ tons moving at 60mph at all times? Build everywhere that isn't a road like a fortress?

As I've said in another comment on this story already : an ageing population combined with a proliferation of large, heavy, powerful vehicles is a recipe for a lot more of these tragedies. You can easily Google 'car hits house/shop/building' to see how common it already is. If Doreen is going to have a medical emergency, I want her to ideally be on a bus or a train, but if she really has to be in a car, I'd prefer she was in a fiat 500 than almost anything else."

President Joe Biden landed in London late Sunday to start a trip where he tried to sooth relations after skipping the coronation of King Charles before joining a NATO summit meeting while facing blowback over transferring deadly new munitions to Ukraine.

It's just one part of his journey, where the White House has telegraphed that the signature event will be a speech in Vilnius about maintaining uniformly confronting Russian aggression in Ukraine, and while he must navigate diplomatic splits over the status of Ukraine and Sweden, who are each seeking to join the powerful military alliance.

Biden told CNN in an interview broadcast as he set off on his journey that Ukraine was not 'ready for membership' in NATO.

Brits surely don't like the American president.

"If I was King Charles, I wouldnt give him the time of day after snubbing the Coronation invitation."

"Poor King Charles having to host this demented moron"

"He is not welcome here" - "God save the Queen"

And some Americans either:

"My apologies to the UK in advance. As a warning, please expect the following.. "I'm losing patience with the unvaccinated. Kamala is president. Russia is clearly losing the war in Iraq. Where's Jackie? God save the queen man. Let's send cluster bombs to kill civilians. End of quote" (Falls off stationary bike. Falls UP the stairs of Airforce one. Someone quickly hands him a cue card with directions on how to open a door and sit down) ."

On Sunday, Priti Patel has mocked the Government over the small boats crisis as more than 1,000 migrants arrived in 48 hours.

The former home secretary made the public intervention after it was confirmed there were 686 arrivals across the Channel on Friday – the highest daily total so far this year.

Dame Priti tweeted: 'Stopping the boats is much harder than the Government thought it would be.' She later told the Mail: 'There is no single solution to 'stopping the boats', as this Government has finally discovered.'

"Patel mocks Braverman for being just as useless as she was."

"Priti Patel didn't do anything about the situation either, so what is she on about?"

"Patel failed at the job as well..."
