On Sunday, Britons learned that democracy is at threat as UK government is doing little to help those unable to vote. It turned out that as many as 9.4 million people across Great Britain, 17% of eligible adults and equivalent to nearly one-in-every-five of us, are missing from the electoral register or not listed at our current address so we may not be able to vote, with the complete inaction of the government.
Mirror readers are not happy with this news. The most popular comments are about a great election fraud which would establish Tory dictatorship in the UK:
"We have been downgraded to an obstructive democracy just above repressive."
"It's called voter suppression Kev, and it's aimed directly and squarely at those people who do not normally vote Conservative. The Tories have lifted the cunning plan straight from the American Republicans - in the same way as they adopted their woke/culture wars, statue and flag worship. Look on well at the US, a country at war with itself - it's exactly what the Tories have in store for us: divide and rule.
Given the Tories obsession with all things American, they'd be wise to heed the cautionary advice of Ben Franklin : We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall hang separately."
"The biggest fraudster in the UK are the Tories. That is why they are trying to usurp the democratic vote to try and hang onto power."
Up to 20,000 migrants could be offered a new safe and legal route to the UK each year. The UK government will work in partnership with the UN refugee agency.
It looks like Sunak's attempt to quell rebellions over his Illegal Migration Bill. In fact, it is so unpopular that the most popular opinion among social media users is that "If this law (about 20,000 migrants) is not passed then say goodbye to the next election and god help us with labour."
Others, however, ask fair questions "Why should the ECHR have any say whatsoever? We have left the EU have we not?" "Our country our laws. Why should we be told what to do."
There are many questions on the most acute domestic issues like "Any chance of some homes for the British homeless?" "Yes because we’re going to scoop up a load of third world potential terrorists and make them British before giving them homes…"
"Hilarious. Tories do nothing about the homelessness problem and call homeless people skivers. But as soon as there’s some ethnic minorities to bash, suddenly they cry crocodile tears. The empty Tory virtue signalling is disgraceful.
Tories increased homelessness every single year from 2010. The number of homeless people rose by 40% up until the start of the pandemic when they were put up in hotels to avoid public health issues.
Just how racist does a Tory voter have to be to start banging on about homelessness as a reason to drop immigration?"
And "We don't want anymore migrants! We already have millions of illegals here already."
At the same time, we read about justice served over another paedophile Met officer (where is the end of that list of shame?), the most disturbing statistics on "mothers and babies are dying in childbirth as a result of a staffing crisis in midwifery" voiced during the annual conference of North West TUC, and a long lasting cost of living crisis worsening to households across the UK.
